It's been 2 years since Zan taught a workshop in Portland, and my, how things have changed! If you are looking for something new to work on, you must attend these classes.

Zan has been performing and teaching poi for 6 years. He created The Encyclo-Poi-dia instructional DVDs and has taught workshops around the world to all levels of poi spinners.

Zan and Aurora have been pursuing and innovating partner poi for three years and are on the forefront of what's possible with two people and four poi. They have a gusto for teaching and life, and are just fun to be with.

1-2:30p Poi: placing petals and spinning mandalas

This class will work on advancing your control and freedom with flowers. How do you make petals facing in and out? Spin and anti-spin? Learn to make 1 to 6 petals with each hand, then overlay two patterns by using both hands. Now the world of mandalas and circular patterns is wide open to you. Spin a yin-yang with your poi, a vesica pisces, or the flower of life. Understanding these shapes through time with both your body and your mind has a powerful effect on yourself and the people watching.

We'll also work on body movement within the shapes, how to move freely, and how to learn a move faster using the movement of your whole body.

3-4:30p Partner Poi

Share the joy of poi. Be challenged not only by yourself, but by sharing and communication. We'll work from the ground up and cover a lot of material. You don't need to have done partner poi before. The class will cover sharing patterns, sharing space, and partner weaves (both between the bodies and standing together). You don't have to bring a partner to class, but you're welcome to. Expect to play, giggle, get hit in the head with a sock poi, and learn a lot in the process.

• Please, no fire tools unless they are covered well enough to protect the venue.

• Only hoops without gaffer's tape will be allowed in the studio.

• Both volumes of The Encyclo-Poi-dia and equipment from Flamebuoyant Productions will be available at both workshops.

Registration day of workshops depends on space available. Prices per person will be $40 for one workshop, $70 for both.
