Workshops

Flamebuoyant Productions also offers poi spinning workshops for groups of 6 or more people. Depending on your schedule, each workshop lasts 1-3 hours with up to 3 sessions available in a day.

Current workshop offerings include Beginning 1 and 2, Variations on the Weave, Focus on Transitions, Intermediate/Advanced Skills, Performance Prepatory, and Fire Safety Training. Beginning Poi 1

A thorough introduction for the novice poi spinner, this course focuses on basic movements performed primarily on the sides of the body. Movements include: circles, crossing, moving with the poi, extensions, weave, turning, corkscrew.

Beginning Poi 2

Prerequisite: Beginning 1 or equal experience.
This course focuses on the butterfly family, the patterns that move in the front and back of the body. Movements include: butterfly, over the head, wave, low wave, Spanish ladies, behind the back butterfly, turning.

Variations on the Weave

Prerequisite: Beginning 1
This course is designed to help you find space in this staple movement to add extra circles, beats, extensions and turns. Movements include: extensions, the fountain, pull outs, under the leg, behind the back, 5 beat.

Focus on Transitions

Prerequisite: mastery of Beginning 1 & 2 material
Designed to redefine your idea of what makes a transition, this course opens the doors to finding your flow. Movements include: the windmill, reels, turning and stalls.

Intermediate/Advanced

Prerequisite: mastery of Beginning 1 & 2 material, strong transitions
Many of the advanced moves challenge your thinking about how to spin a circle, or which side of your body your hand should be on. Movements include: movements behind the back, the wheel and variations, thread the needle, butterfly variations, under the leg, isolations, and the flavor of the day.

Performance Preparatory

Prerequisite: mastery of Beginning 1 & 2 material, strong transitions, instructor permission required
This class is an introduction to choreography, character exploration, partner work and professional etiquette, culminating in a non-fire performance. This course is designed to take place over at least 8 consecutive weeks. While new movements may be taught in the course of learning choreography, this course is not designed to teach new movement.

Fire Skills & Safety Training

Prerequisite: You must be at least 18 years old to learn fire skills. Instructor permission required.
A thorough introduction to fire skills and safety, including discussion on regulations, equipment, fuels and method. This class will give you experience providing fire safety, as well as your first burn. Equipment and fuel provided.
